POPS EVENTS

Author/Illustrator Nikki G. Stahl reads Pops On Wheels accompanied by a hands on accessibility educational activity. By first telling the story of Pops and his grandson, we connect Pops in his wheelchair to family and living a very full and loving life. Together we learn about ramps and handicap signs through play to help contextualize the things children see every day in their world. We play with a Chelsea doll in her wheelchair on play stairs with a ramp. The children learn about accessibility by seeing how Chelsea needs the ramp to get to the top, where she needs to go. We talk about handicap signs and how they provide people who need it, extra space. With the help of a take home handicap sign coloring sheet we ask our learners to pay attention to where they see this sign in their world and to understand why it is there. Through this reading and play, we are giving children context for the things they see all around them and relatably introducing them to the humanity of life in a wheelchair.

This event is free.
